Welcome to Mixer Mail

“The only things guaranteed to be here your entire
life are alcohol and sex.” – Mark Bursic, Sr.

That bit of wisdom was imparted to me by my father long ago as he considered purchasing a local bar. The bar never worked out, however in the spirit of my father’s wisdom (and since the internet has way more than enough sex) I see no reason not add a little more booze. And since 2005 that’s what we’ve done.

Every two weeks on Friday, of course, we post a new drink recipe. This gives you more than enough time to get to the store and buy ingredients before the weekend party. We try to spread around the love with different varieties of drinks including martinis, cordials, highballs, malted beverages and wines. We’ve even thrown in on a beer bread and chili recipe or two.

Thank you for visiting our site, feel free to poke around and see all the old recipes. And please subscribe to our RSS feed to get notification of new recipe postings. If you want more info about sending out your own mixer mails use the contact form to send us a message.

Chocolate Caramel Martini

vincent-van-gogh-dutch-caramel-vodkaThis is a real treat especially with Easter coming up. While the kids are enjoying their creme eggs, you can have the caramel taste without all the sugar and guilt.

The Van Gogh Dutch Caramel vodka really makes this drink. I even sipped some of the vodka straight and it was pretty smooth. I’m not sure how the drink would be with other flavored vodka’s so if your going to make it I’d stick with this one. If the drink is too strong, I think you could cut it with a bit of creme or use a different chocolate liquor. I have the base Creme De Cacao in the recipe but the white chocolate Godiva would probably be a bit smoother.

Chocolate Caramel Martini

Mix equal parts of Van Gogh Dutch Carmel vodka and Creme de Cacao in a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a frosted martini glass.

Pudding Shots

rasberry_vodkaHere is a recipe passed on to me by someone in my accountant’s office. She has tried these and thinks they are fantastic.

I imagine you can have a lot of fun with flavors and mixing together any combination of pudding and alcohol. Try vanilla pudding and raspberry schnapps, vanilla pudding and root beer schnapps, use whatever alcohol you have in your cupboard and buy the pudding to mix with it. She said that coconut and vodka was suggested, but she hates coconut so hasn’t tried it.

Pudding Shots
1 package, 3-1/2 oz. instant chocolate pudding mix
3/4 cup of milk
1/4 cup of vodka  (raspberry  vodka)
1/2 cup Irish cream  (raspberry schnapps)
8 oz. cool whip

Mix pudding and milk together in a bowl.
Add alcohol and stir well.
Fold in cool whip.
Divide into plastic shot glasses and keep in the freezer.

Golden Martini

goldschlagerThis is a drink I am planning on serving over the holidays. People have come to expect good martini’s from me, but I am sick of serving the same ones over and over. Yes the Peppermint Patty and the Tiramisu Martinis are fantastic, but this year I am pushing something new. Something gold!

The golden martini is deceptively simple just vanilla vodka and cinnamon schnapps. It is on the sweet side of martinis but its very easy to make and packs a punch.

Golden Martini

3 1/2 oz of Goldschlager Cinnamon Schnapps
2 1/2 oz of Vanilla Vodka
Cinnamon stick

Chill a martini glass. Put all ingredients into shaker with ice. Shake and strain into chilled glass. Use stick as garnish.

Play Santa’s Magic Clock

smc_logo_smallJust like years in the past we are playing our Santa’s Magic Clock game. This year kids have to find all eight reindeer who have taken day jobs after forgetting about Christmas. Help your kids find the clues to the whereabouts of the reindeer and at the end they get a personal email from Santa.

Pomegranate Martini

pomThis is a great holiday drink because it uses a fruit prevalent in the fall and because of its festive color. So its great around Thanksgiving and Christmas. I made these at my Thanksgiving celebration and they were a hit.

You can make these one at a time or increase the portions and make a pitcher. I prefer to mix them two at a time so they are fresh and have the nice ice crystals you get from the shaker. Each one of the ingredients are essential to the balance of the drink. If you leave one out you will get a good martini, but not a superb one. Just like the Politician, the secret to the drink is the orange vodka. After we burned through the Svedka Clementine, I tried to use regular vodka and some orange liquor. It was too sweet and the drink wasn’t the same. So stick with the ingredients for the first batch then try experimenting.

Pomegranate Martini

2 oz Orange Vodka
1 oz Pomegranate Liquor
1 oz Pom Pomegranate Juice
1 oz Cranberry Juice (100% Juice not Cocktail)
1 oz Sours Mix
Fresh Cranberries and Pomegranate Seeds

Mix all ingredients in a shaker with crushed ice. Shake and strain into a chilled martini glass. Add cranberries and seeds for garnish.

Jim Beam Red Stag

red_stagWelcome to the triumphant return of the MixerMail. Yes, I took some time off, but I’m back and have some great drinkst to share. This week it’s the Jim Beam Red Stag.

I was very skeptical about a cherry flavored Burbon. But its wonderful. I drank it on the rocks while playing poker and its smooth and flavorful. You still get that distinctive bourbon taste, but the cherry cuts it very nicely. I’ve included a recipe for it mixed, if your not as advertourous enough to try it straight.

Brass Buck

3 parts Red Stag by Jim Beam Infused Bourbon
4 parts Ginger ale
Lime Wedge

Fill a highball glass 3/4 with ice. Pour in Red Stag by Jim Beam and ginger ale. Garnish with lime.
